Sania weds Shoaib: The Real Story

Sania weds Shoaib: The Real Story
By: Salil Jayakar London

March 30 is a day most Indians and Pakistanis will never forget. As the sun rose over the two nuclear nations, its people came together in joyous celebration. State and independent media in both countries was in a rapture as Sania Mirza - model and India's most celebrated tennis player - and Shoaib Malik - Pakistan cricket's poster boy for alleged cheating - announced their love and revealed their marriage plans. But even as their fans, well-wishers and supporters congratulated them with spontaneous celebrations all over and in Twitterverse, several conpiracy theories were already doing the rounds.

This correspondent has reliably learnt that Sania's so called chance meeting with Shoaib in Dubai six months ago was carefully planned and executed by none other than former Indian cricket team captain Mohammed Azharuddin at the behest of the Indian government in an effort to bring the Pakistani cricket establishment to its knees. According to sources in Hyderabad, home to both Sania and Azhar, the youth icon has been recruited by the Government of India to spy on Pakistan's cricket team; Shoaib is but an innocent pawn in the game. His life ban for cheating has been reduced to a year.

"Shoaib was going through a rough patch in his career. His personal life was a mess as well," our source revealed. Azhar thought that given Shoaib's state of mind since both his personal and professional life was in doldrums, it was the right time for Sania to enter his life. The source adds, "Sania is a pretty girl and knows how to use her looks to her advantage. Shoaib has fallen for her hook, line and sinker and trusts her completely." It won't be long before Pakistan cricket's innermost details will be in the hands of India.

This correspondent made several attempts to reach Sania and Azhar for their version but both remained inaccessible throughout the day and didn't answer their mobile phones. However, Sangeeta Bijlani, ex-Miss India, former actor and Azhar's second wife said that her husband had always served his country as best as he could and he would do so if given the opportunity again.

Box: Sania-Shoaib Tweet Love
@MirzaSania: I know this has come as a big surprise to everyone but I hope you all understand that I have always kept my personal life private & I would like to thank you all again for all the love, wishes and support. Really appreciate it.

The Sania-Shoaib love story has not only taken the sporting worlds of both nations but also Bollywood - India's Hindi film industry - by storm. Already, biggies such as Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have expressed their desire to make a film telling their story on the big screen. "Based on what I've read and seen in the media, I've already written a rough draft," said Bhatt. "My movie will be ready to go on floors as soon as they give me the green signal," he added. Serial kisser Emraan Hashmi and Pakistani actress Meera (remember her?) - Bhatt film regulars - have already shown their interest to portray Shoaib and Sania respectively.

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik have done for the Indo-Pak peace process in one day what PMs and three wars have not been able to achieve in over six decades. Sania's fans have already taken out a signature campaign to petition the Indian government to award her the Bharat Ratna.
