Keep on writing...

Out for drinks with a friend last weekend at one of Bandra’s happening watering holes, I ran into this ex-Miss India (honestly, I do know a few) whom I know from my journalism days. She remembered me by face but not my name. I refreshed her memory and she went, “Oh yes! You’re the page 3 guy!” #facepalm

I guess I’ll always be remembered as a writer / journalist. Not for my exceptional writing skills (modest, ain't I?) but because that’s what I've been known to do for a long time now. It doesn't matter that I quit journalism almost 4 years ago. Since then I've worked in market research, digital marketing and corporate communications. But to some, I’ll always be the writer / journalist they knew. #lifelessons

Funnily enough, I quite like it when I’m still called a writer. But that’s not quite the same as being a journalist. Is it? I don’t know. The lines are blurred. I read random crap on sites by 20 year olds, who have an opinion on everything and anything under the sun, who proudly say they are journalists when asked. I think not. Oh, I don’t have anything against 20 year olds. #justsaying

Over the past 7-8 odd months, I've written not more than a few times, mostly for former bosses / editors who continue to keep the faith. I've never been good at networking and I dare say my personal PR skills are terrible. And I don’t have the patience to chase old acquaintances / colleagues now in fancy editorial positions for writing assignments that more often than not pay a pittance. #keepingfaith

I’m 'writing' after months, more of a blog post really. No, I’m not a blogger. Unlike every other person these days with a DSLR and is a photographer or every other person on #socialmedia with 1,000+ followers who is an 'influencer'. I’m just a writer and I’ll always be one because that’s what I love doing. #notarant

Journalism / journalist, writing / writer… I really don’t know where it starts and where it ends. Over a decade later, I still ain’t an expert… #getit
